Caroline Bain is a senior member of the Global Forecasting team and leads the Economist Intelligence Unit's commodity forecasts and coverage. She manages an extensive base of analysts contributing to the Economist Intelligence Unit's World Commodity Forecast reports, on both soft and hard commodities. Caroline has a broad range of experience in both hard and soft commodities as a result of nearly 20 years covering all the key commodity-producing regions, including Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. Her background in macroeconomics means she is well positioned to analyse the demand and supply trends in commodity markets. Caroline was previously a senior member of the Middle East team at the Economist Intelligence Unit, specialising in the Gulf region and the regional oil and gas industry. Prior to this, she had worked on both the Asia team, with a particular specialisation in Thailand and Indonesia, and the Latin America team. Caroline was also a regional manager of the Economist Intelligence Unit's country risk service, reflecting her interest in sovereign risk.. Prior to working at the Economist Intelligence Unit, Caroline worked in the City of London on equity and bond market forecasting and strategy in emerging markets. Caroline holds a degree in economics from Trinity College Dublin and a masters degree in financial economics from the University of London.
